intangibleplace

R.I.P. Andrew, I miss you.

Let me in,
I shall walk
in dark
guide me,
with tears
and pain
I will see
hidden shadows
famished
in your silent thoughts
Lead me
into the bedlam
basked in
spits of disgrace
You said
control
tranquil shall come
steams of tears
rolled down
back into your rusted box
Unlock for me,
I too feel the same
forsaken
faiths and hopes
You had
too much
reconciliation
It means nothing
no more,
Fuel you heart
with anger
burning
your pain
silent screams
echoes
skin,
they lie
pores of joy
veiled
rotten rue
fear
they are real
look through
blindfolded eyes
Have you seen the other side?
show me
the intangible place
I shall follow
was it all worth it?
Tell me,
Why'd you lost it?
I want to know
if this is real
why did you let go?

Night out at the ridiculously over-priced Halo cafe.First time there since it opened couple of months ago. Place was alright, band wasn't god-awful, but they can't sing most of the songs we requested, so, hmmph..

Then, later that night is our little Mooncake-Lantern-whatever Festival, just the few of us looking really stupid and retarded, but it was all good fun. Honestly, I haven't seen one of those old-school paper lantern in ages, I mean do people really still carry em around during Mooncake festival? But, of course, tonight was about good ol times, so we bought some of those paper lanterns (which are really really cheap by the way) and head of to the beach around 1 in the morning. Thank god there was nobody at the beach to make us look stupid.

Film: The Invasion [2007]

invasion

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, James McTeigue
Written by Dave Kajganich, The Wachowski brothers
Starring Nicole Kidman,Daniel Craig
Music by John Ottman

The Invasion opens when a space shuttle crashed and it's pieces landed back on earth bringing some sort of extraterritorial organism back with it, and caused chaos, as pandemic spreads, and human turns into alies, that look like human that is, and it spreads fast overnight, people who are infected change into unemotional aliens, or zombies, wandering around, looking for more real human to infect. Nicole Kidman plays a psychiatrist Carol Bennel, in which it reminds me a lot of The Forgotten - whose ex-husband is one of the first one to become aliens. Once she and her status-unknown friend, Ben Driscoll played by Daniel Craig began to uncover the mysterious virus that infects people, it began a race to save her child from her ex husband, in which, her son, is so ironically, immune to the infection.

The first released poster is as shown above, which I quite dig, and was mislead to think it's a psycho-thriller kind of movie, which turns out to be about some ET invading earth, in the most cliche kinda way. I swear to god the final poster (below) looked exactly like a rip off from X-Files, was it just me, that Daniel Craig looked like David Duchonvy, and Nicole Kidman looked just like Gillian Anderson?

The_Invasion_film_poster TRXFDVD6_lg

Movie, was hmm... like, totally whatever. It was a really weird movie - like a really bad breed of The Forgotten, X-Files and some other Zombie movies (Dawn of the dead, 28 Days/Weeks Later). It's not half as ridiculous as The Forgotten but lacks the whackiness of 28 Days/Weeks Later. If had the human turn into zombie, like I mean with make ups and shits, it would've been more compelling.

Director James McTeigue was hired at later stage of the production to perform uncredited re-shoots of some of the scenes in the movie, resulting some very noticeable sloppy editing in the movie, which could be mistakenly read as 'artsy editing'.

However, not everything about this movie is bad, some scenes are actually really suspenseful, and manage to keep me jumpin' off my seats. Much of the reason the movie was not so much of a pain to watch is because Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig is driving the storyline. Have they been some other actors, this movie won't be able so sustain the lack of pretty much everything in the movie.

My Moon My Man by Feist [CA]

Taken from album The Reminder [2007]
Single release date unknown
Track length: 03m 48s

First single of Feist's Polaris Music Prize (Canada's equivalent of UK's Mercury)nominated album, The Reminder, My Moon My Man is simply addictive. Ok, so I think this song is erotic, plus she's really hot.

Taken from album Sam's Town [2006]
Single released 26 February 2007
Track length: 04m 06s

Brendon Flowers said their(The Killers) album, Sam's Town will be one of the best album in the last 20 years. Hm, well probably not even close, but they do make good commercial and glamorous pop. Sam's Town was nice, in general, with some good songs. Read My Mind is one of it, possibly my favorite of Sam's Town.

Best of '07 - Singles: Editors - Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors

How can we wear our smiles
With our mouths wide shut
'Cause you stopped us from singin'

I can't shake this feeling I've got
My dirty hands, have I been in the wars?
The saddest thing that I'd ever seen
Were smokers outside the hospital doors

Editors - An End Has A Start - Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors

Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors by Editors [UK]

Taken from album An End Has A Start [2007]
Single release date: 18th June 2007
Track length: 5m 00s

Sometimes, comparison is one form of flattery, in which I am referring to Editors - when mostly everything about them shouts Joy Division, and some might say Interpol although the only similarity between Editors and the latter is Tom Smith and Paul Bank's vocal. Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors sound very much like The Back Room's material only better. Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors opens the new album in dark sombre mood with beautifully written lyric about tragedy and lost - it's ironic how life ends, how we have no control over it and how hard it is dealing with lost, the desperation and not wanting to let go. They did a great work with the arrangements too, their trademark building guitar crescendo, layered with orchestral keyboards and strings driven by maturing Tom Smith's baritone vocal - made this song uniquely different from other bands in the genre. Did I mention they kinda make Coldplay amateurish? Oh, the music video is brilliant too.

Best of '07 - Singles: Blonde Redhead - 23

23 seconds, all things we love will die
23 magic, if you can change your life
Your tainted heart, my tainted love, repent now
How many times ?
As long as you live, how many times ?
The world will go around

23 by Blonde Redhead

Taken from Album: 23
Single release date: 2nd April 2007

Ethereal synths, lush chamber-pop arrangements, riveberating piano opening, propelling drum tensions, effects driven guitar rock and new-level of high pitched shoegazing from front woman Kazu Makino - seems to be a rewarding product from Blonde Redhead after 12 years and 7 albums. First single, 23 from album of same title is Blonde Redhead at their finest, like it or not, they evolved into 23, and I personally think it's simply amazing.

Film: Disturbia [2007]

Disturbia

Directed by D.J. Caruso
Written by Christopher B. Landon and Carl Ellsworth
Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Sarah Roemer, Carrie-Anne Moss, David Morse, and Aaron Yoo
Genre: Thriller

Shia LeBeouf plays Kale, a teenager who have attitude problem since his father's death in a car crash when they were driving home from a fishing trip. Kale who assaulted his Spanish teacher, was then put to home arrest with an electronic ankle bracelet device which prevents him from going anywhere further than his front yard. Imprisoned in his own house, he began spying on his neighbors with his naked eyes. A series of intense voyeurism with camcorders and cellphone and ugly events unfolds as he grew suspicious of his other neighbor (played by David Morse) for killing women in his house.

The movie spend a big first half on building up suspense, unveiling storyline and developing characters leaving the boiling point to the last quarter where the film took a rough and inexplicable turn. One might find the first half a little bit too slow, but as the plot unfolds, it's all understandable, building tension needs time, and the director have a very good grip at timing.

Storyline is uber cliched teen thriller one might mistakenly placed this along-side with I Know What You Did Last Summer, but thankfully it's not, credits to the brilliant casting of Shia Lebeouf as Kale and his super-horny asian friend, Ronald played by Aaron Yoo. Shia Lebeouf proves he has the credibility to carry a movie, his acting, is spot on, and he has a very good control over his character making Kale - the troubled teenager a relate-able character.
